Thatcher, Britain’s First Woman Prime Minister

Margaret Thatcher at Torness

Margaret Thatcher, heroine of the Falklands, the scourge of the miners, the ‘most divisive’ Prime Minister in recent British history, maybe any British history, died in 2013.  She was 87.

Legions of trendy-lefty commentators danced in the streets, and people far, far too young to have any recollection whatsoever of what Dame Margaret Hilda Thatcher actually did, filled their Facebook drivel, er, pages, with claptrap about how much they hated her and were glad to see her gone.

Well, I remember her reign, and indeed it was not pleasant. But what is forgotten, perhaps wilfully, by those who celebrated her death, is what life was like before Thatcher. They forget too, that without her, a great part of what the ‘British’ now accept as normal, simply would not exist.

Capitalism: is there an alternative in free societies?

Originally posted 2017-03-03 06:58:38.

There is no alternative to Capitalism in a free society. Removing it would also necessarily remove the foundation of Enlightened Culture. As I wrote here, that foundation is that we all own our own bodies and lives. They are ours to do as we will with, so long as we do not harm others.  If we so choose, we may use them to earn and acquire property, which is Capital. Once acquired, it is ours to keep or exchange.

Removing Capitalism dispossesses us of our own lives and bodies, since it prevents us from using them to acquire things. Worse, it assumes that, since our bodies and lives are not our own, they must belong to someone or something else. This has been the Family, the State, the Tribe, the Earth, the Party, the Church, the Crown, the Faith; you name it. Our most precious freedom, to live our own lives with our own bodies, is removed when we attempt to remove Capitalism.

Trump restored rights to women. Fact.

Originally posted 2017-02-27 06:25:25.

In 2017 US President Donald Trump reversed one of the most egregious acts of anti-science perpetrated by the catastrophic Obama administration.

He rolled back the infamous ‘guidance’ to US Title IX, issued in 2016, which attempted to force Federally-funded programmes to remove protections for women based on their sex and biological science.

Trudeau’s Cynical PR Stunt Mocks Disabled People

Originally posted 2017-02-22 07:33:23.

In a long career as a news and PR photographer and journalist, I have seen some sick ideas, some stupid ideas and quite a few cynical ideas. But rarely have I seen anything as dumb, patronising, blatantly offensive and downright cynical as this obviously stunted-up PR picture promoting arch-slimeball Justin Trudeau.

The picture purports to show Trudeau ‘helping a disabled person down an escalator’ at Montreal Metro Station. Oh really? Why didn’t he just use the fucking lift, that was put there so that disabled persons, particularly those in wheelchairs, could freely access the service?

Because that way there would have been no opportunity fora sick, cynical, patronising PR ‘picture opportunity’.

These people make me sick.

Sweden: How feminist emasculation broke a State

Originally posted 2017-02-21 08:13:31.

Sweden is proud, today, to say that it has a woman president and a largely female Cabinet. This is lauded by feminists the world over. Yet Sweden is unable to provide the basic level of protection that its own citizens require. And those who suffer most are women, who are the victims of rape jihad at the hands of Muslim immigrants.

The Duty of State

The primary duty of a State is the protection of its people. This is the social contract we make: we consent to be governed in return for protection. If we require to look after our own security, why should we pay a State to do it? Why not buy a pistol or a shotgun and learn how to use it? Why not form militias or vigilante groups and defend ourselves? If it’s defend yourself or be raped or murdered, what right does the State have to demand taxes, or hobedience to its laws? The point of having a State at all is to avoid anarchy; but that is precisely the result, when it cannot protect its citizens.

The Monster Geewaha-nalior

Originally posted 2013-02-12 12:45:26.

I wrote this piece about a sea-monster in 2008 and always liked it. It was aimed at children and those with young minds. I hope you enjoy it. It’s about the right length for a bedtime story too.

The monster Geewaha-nalior cruises the endless blue sea once again.

Long, long years he had slept, resting on a coral beach. His head lay on the sand and his body and tail stretched for miles out into the sea; and as men began to navigate the world, again and again ships crashed into the scales of his back, wrecking themselves.

Seumus the dog: a tale of three pies and a pint

Originally posted 2017-02-16 08:26:46.

A long time ago, when I was a young lad, I had the acquaintance of a dog called Seumus.

Now Seumus was of, shall we say, indeterminate lineage. There seemed to be a fair bit of black Labrador in there, but it was mixed with some distinctly non-pedigree characteristics, including a tail that curled over his back. When Seumus was feeling full of himself, he carried this high and showed to the world his anal sphincter. I’m sure that’s not in the Labrador breed book.

Enlightened Culture versus Snowflake Culture

Originally posted 2017-02-15 07:11:48.

Events of recent months contributed to a discussion between myself, Rod Fleming, and Karis Burkowski. Karis carried out the role of editor and eventually co-author of our book ‘Why Men Made God’. In reviewing the book for a second edition, we encountered several points of discussion that highlight the difference between enlightened culture and regressive-left Snowflake Culture. I thought our discussion was worth sharing.

Today, the term ‘Snowflake Culture’ has passed out of popular usage, as is has become clear that it is nothing other than the extreme Left and is popularly referred to as ‘wokeism’. I was still an atheist when this was written, too. Ihave not changed this article, however.

Karis Burkowski (KB): The climate catastrophe is inevitable, but can still be somewhat ameliorated. How our cultures rebuild themselves in a post-catastrophe world is a valuable discussion…Self-serving cults, particularly those with medieval attitudes, must not be allowed to gain ascendancy. We must change as a species, like we did post-Toba, and do better next time.

You mentioned that the friends of atheists are Christians. That may be so in Europe, but it is far from true over here. Atheists are still ‘closeted’ in many parts of the US and for good reason…The antithesis of Islam is not Christianity, it is secularism. Both groups would destroy atheists if they could.

(This article was written in 2016 and I have not updated it, although in fact, my position is significantly harder now than it was then. In the end, Trump was one of the best US Presidents ever and I am proud to have supported him. Pence was predictably invisible as VP. I sincerely hope Trump will return to high office soon. The book under discussion, Why Men Made God, was withdrawn from publication after agreement between the publisher and myself, as principal author. Part of its content has been rewritten into a new book, which will appear soon.)

Dancing into The New Feudalism

We have, in the West, entered into an age of new feudalism. To understand this we need to look back to the original one.

Once we get past the chivalry, knights in shining armour, pages who polished their swords, swooning ladies, castles and dragons, feudalism, essentially, was about the concentration of wealth in the hands of a tiny elite.

Medieval Europe was largely an agrarian economy, although there were significant resources in fishing and still, hunting — both of which quickly came under the control of the landed elite, the feudal lords.

Time has run out: War has begun

Originally posted 2017-02-03 07:34:03.

We have no time left to deliberate, now. Appeasement has failed, just as it did in 1939. The enemy is among us. He is far more cruel and vicious than Adolf Hitler and more totalitarian than the Nazis. He uses any weapon he can to kill us, while we have allowed our governments to take from us our own, with which we might, perhaps, have defended ourselves. His name is Islam and he has declared war.

Our cultural values of freedom and toleration we must now put aside, because our continent is sick. The dream of a free, peaceful Europe that we have been building for seven decades is dead.  We must, now, fight to preserve what is left, the essential core of our cultural values. To do that we must accept that many of our privileges, afforded by the system we live under, must be suspended. We are at war and that is one consequence.
