Brain Sex Myth Debunked — Again

The brain sex argument claims that people born male may present, later in life, in feminine appearance, because they have ‘women’s brains’. This has been debunked so often it hurts, but apparently we have to keep making the point, because so many of these mutts just keep banging on about  it.

Let me explain.

Woman’s Brain?

There is no such thing as a ‘woman’s brain’, or at least, it is only a statistical concept. Human brains are much more alike than dimorphous and it is often said that a neurologist could not tell, were a brain plonked on his table, whether it came from a male or a female. (One is talking about cadavers, but current levels of debate, especially amongst millennialist ‘Social Justice Warriors’, do give one pause for thought.)

Yes, there are, on average, morphological differences, but there are huge overlaps too. You cannot definitively classify ‘male brains’ and ‘female brains’ as being different. All you can say is that on average of sample, a female brain might be more likely to have certain characteristics than a male one and vice versa. But this is a statistical artefact and is frankly meaningless in discussing the individual.

This should be obvious, but that is hidden by the ‘brain sex’ apologists. If we look at any population of humans, we will find a range of morphology. My ex sister-in-law has huge hands, much bigger than mine; does that make her a man? Or intersex? No, of course not. She’s a woman with atypically large hands. We can say the same across all parameters. There are big women and small men; there are craggy-faced women and petite-featured men. It’s called variation and it applies on all physical parameters. Human sexual dimorphism is slight, when compared with other species: we are more alike than we differ.

Causality

Next there is the issue of causality or ‘biological determination’. The brain is the most adaptive organ in the body. If we find a part of the brain that is atypical, in individuals whose behaviour is also atypical, we cannot tell whether the brain atypicality caused the behavioural one, or whether the behaviour caused the brain to adapt.

I am a musician. This means that my brain is slightly different from a non-musician’s brain. Did I become a musician because I have an atypical brain or did I get the weird brain because I spent decades practising music every day? Which do you think is more likely? We can do the same with footballers, golfers, scientists…are we suggesting that people’s lives are pre-programmed from birth, because their brains have a certain form? All sorts of junk science have been based on assertions like that; are you brave enough to put yourself in the same camp as Hitler?

It’s a clear nonsense. All reputable studies show that even if there were an innate propensity towards a certain potential ability, this only accounts for about 10% of the realised one. It’s nine-tenths down to hard work and practice.

In other words, what you do in life makes your brain develop in a particular way.

Fatal for ‘brain sex’

This should be pretty much fatal for the ‘brain sex’ apologists, but no, they cling to this old saw like a comfort blanket. So let’s see how we might establish how brain atypicality actually could have a causative effect, rather than the other way around.

We should have to randomly select a large number of male babies and MRI test them throughout childhood. We should have to note which developed the anomaly. Then we should have to closely monitor their behaviour throughout their lives and see if those with the anomaly became gender non-conforming — and all this without, of course, revealing the purpose of the testing to the subjects. Alternatively and less persuasively, we could MRI test all children showing GNC as soon as it appeared and see if they already had the atypicality.

I think it should be obvious why no such test has ever been carried out. The costs, the management and the ethical considerations are just too great. So we cannot say whether being transsexual makes your brain change or the opposite. However, the balance of evidence from other known atypicalities suggests that the former is more likely.

Brain sex, at best, applies to only one group of transwomen in any case. These are transsexuals or, technically, ‘homosexual transsexuals’ or ‘Blanchard HSTS’. I use the term ‘transsexual’ to describe these individuals.

MRI Studies: the evidence

MRI studies (Rametti et al, Savic and Arver, both 2011) show that, amongst MtF, only transsexuals (Blanchard HSTS) have brains with similar morphology to average women. This is in line with other morphological characteristics of this group: they tend to be, on average, smaller, lighter, slighter for their height, have finer features and be more neotenous (retaining child-like features) than the norm for males of their ethnicity. To put that another way, they are girlish in other physical parameters too.

Most importantly, they are strongly sexually attracted to men, from childhood. Blanchard himself stated his belief that when snon-invasive testing became available, this group would indeed, be shown to have brains shifted towards the typically female, nearly 30 years ago.

Autogynephiles DO NOT have ‘female brains’.

Autogynephile transvestites do not exhibit any difference in brain structure from the average for men. This was confirmed and commented on by Savic and Arver in 2011. Yet this is precisely the group who most strenuously insist on the ‘brain sex’ theory and I have even seen them quote Rametti et al — which study specifically excluded ‘non-homosexual’ ie autogynephilic MtFs. Naturally, they never mention the complementary study by Savic and Arver!

Although Blanchard identified a cause for transsexualism (HSTS), he did not do so for autogynephilia. He posited that the root of transsexualism was sexual desire for men. He stated that transsexuals were etiologically related to feminine homosexual men and this is completely supported by observation. Particularly in Asia, there is an overlap between these two groups, where individuals may appear for part of their lives as one and part as the other — sometimes on the same day!

The underlying stimulus for transsexualism is, therefore, the desire to attract and keep straight male sexual and romantic partners. This, lest we forget, is the base motivation for much of the gendered behaviour exhibited by natal women; transsexuals are just doing the same.

Gays andTranssexuals

Transsexuals are never romantically interested in gay men (a sentiment which is reciprocated) because they want straight men, who will penetrate them. It is almost impossible for someone who appears to be a man to attract such lovers, so the solution is obvious. At the same time, the physical femininity of such individuals means that they probably pass easily and so would have better lives living convincingly as women than appearing to be effeminate men. So sex drive — the desire for men — is the cause of transsexualism.

Blanchard proposed, convincingly, that sex drive was also the motivation for autogynephilia, which he described as ‘a man’s propensity to be sexually aroused at the thought or image of himself as a woman’. He went on to hypothesise that this was because of what he called an ‘Erotic Target Location Error’ or ETLE, in which the subject, instead of being attracted to another person, is attracted to himself as a woman. Again, this is consistent with observation.

It does not, however, explain why this is happening. What causes some men to fall in love — or more accurately, lust — with themselves, in the role of women? Blanchard did not go into this but the answer is simple: these men have an emasculation fetish. For a variety of reasons, they become sexually aroused by the idea of being ‘de-masculinised’. Dr Charles Moser observed this and suggested that they were androphobic and they are, but again, he did not discuss the reasons why this was happening.

Dave Muscato: a man called ‘Danielle’

Men like Dave Muscato, whom we discussed here as ‘non-trans autogynephiles’, are interesting because they illustrate the root cause of autogynephilia, which is emasculation fetish. Autogynephiles are men who get off on being emasculated, in a sexualised, fetishistic manner. For some, full transition is required, for others, like Muscato, just being called a ‘woman’ is the sexual hit they crave.

It is possible for a transsexual/Blanchard HSTS to live as a man, too. This expression is a feminine, sexually submissive gay man. There is desire for emasculation here too, but it is fulfilled through the act of being penetrated in sex. Feminine gay men are largely ostracised by the gay community itself and would usually be better off transitioning — as we see happening all over Asia where social intolerance and homophobia is much lower than in the West. We are seeing more such males, in the West, transitioning, because of the reduction of these pressures and the establishment of support networks through social media.

Muscato does not fit this profile. He is a classic autogynephile. I don’t know what his sexual preference is, but I would hazard that he is either analloerotic (doesn’t have sex with others) or gynephilic (has a standard male sexual desire for sex with women, but *as a ‘woman’*) so that he can indulge in a lesbian fantasy. However, there is no such thing as a MtF trans lesbian, they’re just male transvestites. You can’t be a lesbian unless you were born with a vagina. (Yes, born with a vagina; cosmetic aftermarket installations don’t count.)

More than clothes

Being a woman is about more than clothes and social roles. This is why the feminist argument that gender is *only* constructed must be false. If it’s totally constructed then anyone can do it; but then they themselves argue that this is impossible, meaning that there must be an innate, non-learned component of gender that born-males cannot share. QED.

Understanding what the innate parts of gender are, and how they are effected, is difficult, but these likely are a result of physical dimorphism and sex hormones.

If the above is true, then Transsexuals/Blanchard HSTS, who are morphologically atypical for males and much closer to norms for females, might be experiencing some of the innate pressures that give rise to feminine gender, particularly if they begin HRT close to puberty; but again, this has never been tested.

Asia

Asian transsexuals {Blanchard HSTS} frequently begin HRT around 13, using contraceptive pills, which can be bought at any pharmacy without prescription. A popular one is the Micropil, which costs 80 cents for a strip of 21. They eat ’em like sweeties. Many never complete a full male puberty so if there are innate factors in gender related to sex hormones, these might be applicable to them.

Insofar as they are recipient partners in sexual penetration, they enjoy the form of emasculation that this affords and it strengthens their self-image as feminine.

Men like Muscato do not have any of these. They are morphologically and sexually typical males; they look like men, they act like men, they are within typical male norms for their ethnicity on all parameters and most (in the West at least) do not indulge in recipient anal sex. Instead they have a completely hetero-normative sexual desire for women, even if they do subscribe to the self-indulgent delusion that somehow this is a form of ‘lesbianism’. Their desire to appear to be women derives from the satisfaction of their emasculation fetish; in every other regard they are normative men.

To say that a male, who appears to be a man, dresses like a man, acts like a man and has sex like a man, somehow might have a ‘female brain’, should be allowed access to women’s safe spaces or be referred to as ‘she’ is unbelievably stupid and shockingly offensive to women — and, for that matter, transsexuals.

  1. Its completely false that AGP trans in the west can’t attract men. In fact finding men for sexual encounters is easy nowdays for the AGP this includes with other AGPs and at trans events you will find tranny chasers going after these older AGPs in several cases.

The problem is as you’ve said many of these AGPs have homophobia and feel repulsed by the men. What these AGPs have a hard time attracting are the women they desire.

Many even go as far as to get SRS in hopes to blend into their fantasy of the lesbian culture and find that they are not desired like they are in their fantasy.

Brain sex is a stupid concept and its stupid when trans advocates parade around saying gender identity and sexual orientation are different.

For the high majority of the world and for evolution. Gender Identity and sexual orientation are tied together and the transsexuals are an odd outlier to this. Homosexuals are the larger majority of these outliers.

There is a distinction between HSTS and AGPs but the younger the AGP transition (and we are seeing this in the west) The more similar they will appear years down the line.

With regard to physical size of AGPs and HSTS at least in America you will see short smaller boned AGPs and tall large HSTS and of course vise versa. It doesn’t always fit the observation you said Blanchard made.

There are a few studies out there showing sexual orientation change after SRS surgery based on case studies.

Its the middle aged and older AGP who have lifetime effects of testosterone that tend to show the largeness and masculine features.

As an AGP background woman who has worked to be a contributing woman of society its a bit offensive to be called a “Man i a frock”

    1. The ‘men’ that AGPs find partners with are in fact other autogynephiles, as was shown by Hsu et al, 2015. I was not actually counting them. Further my comments referred to the classic western profile AGP as described by Blanchard. They are not so relevant to the Asian profile, partly because of age of transition and commencement of hormones.

Yes, ‘gender identity’ and sexual orientation are indeed two sides of one coin. A large proportion (possibly all) feminine homosexual men are in fact closet transsexuals. They just lack the conviction to transition in the face of social intolerance by a homophobic mainsream society and a ‘femiphobic’ ‘gay’ culture whose mores they are bullied by peers into following. Transsexuals are not an outlier at all; wher social intolerance is lower, many more appear.

Brain sex might well apply to transsexuals, but we know that it does not apply to AGPs — yet they are the ones who make the most noise about it. What we cannot say is whether the brain sex causes the transsexualism or vice versa. It would be nice and simple if it did, but it’s a concept we cannot support on present data.

Transsexuals (HSTS) and autogyneohiles remain distinct. While there are small agps and tall transsexuals, this is not a function of age. The evidence suggests that femininity in men is associated with smaller, lighter, more feminine individuals. ALthough Asian profile AGPs can male themselves int very glamorous women, the distinction is easy to make: the transsexuals are the small pretty ones and the agps are the tall big ones. Skeletal size doesn’t change with age and so your argument there is bogus. Even well-known young trsansitioning Western agps like Jenna Tacklova show this difference in size — just compare her with, say Blaire White or Kim Petras, both transsexual. These diferences are I admit average, but still they are differences.

Sexual oreintation change after transition was noted by Blanchard. It is called ‘pseudo-bisexualism’.

No trans woman can ever be a lesbian: one equires to have been born female for that. Further, you are not ‘an AGP background woman’, your are an AGP transwoman. Women were born with vaginas. As to whether you are a ‘man in a frock’ then I query: if your sexual oeintation is towards women and you have no sign of any brain alteration such as transsexuals have, how are you different from any othe man except in your presentation? Maybe ‘man in a frock’ is blunt, but it is true. That is why I think we should use the term transsexual for HSTS and autogynephilic transvestite for AGPs. (AGPs can be autogynephilic but not transvestite, as Dave Muscato et al prove.)

      1. As a compliment you do know how to provoke polarizing responses to your pieces. Probably your goal.. never a boring time checking em out.

  2. That HSU study is so small and based on a few personal ads so not enough data at all.

HSTS trans also end up dating AGP men. See how many men pursue HSTS because they want to get Topped by their partner and also combined with the fact that the HSTS is less desirable by men once they get SRS. Its been shown over and over again and you even stated they end up paying for sex.

The smaller frame and femininity can be due to Asians in general are smaller boned. In the west there is no corollation between femininity and smaller framed men. Spend any time in Western gay culture and you will see this. Smaller framed feminine men may transition because it is easier than for a larger framed feminine man. But lager framed still transition. Just look at Black trans women in the US who were Gay males.

its much easier for a smaller framed person to develop into feminine behaviors as a taller larger male will feel the pressure to be more masculine.

What I meant by older transitioning AGPs and size is their musculature develops and the effects of HRT are less. Bone structure of course does not change.

Personally I’ve had more male lovers than female. If you want to call it Pseudo bisexual go ahead but its more complex than that. There is physical attraction to male parts and male body types.

Detransition rates among HSTS and AGP are about equal. HSTS will detransition when they find that their not getting the lovers they did when they were a feminine gay man or often pursued transition for prostitution. Or they don’t feel the need to present as a woman to get the sex they want.

AGP detransition well you know why it happens.

If you are trying to open dialog about HSTS and AGP the method done in your articles is the kind of stuff that causes more push back .

And as for that HSU study you wrote about that would put anyone who pursues a transsexual as AGP or lying. Are you in this category?

There is no science that backs up a man’s desire to have attraction to Transsexual women as inbred if it is not AGP. If anything it is learned.

    1. Hsu’s study is consistent with years of obserrvation of and interaction with, albeit online, such men. It is also consistent witht he narratives of trans prostitutes, who often keep wardrobes of women’s clothes for their clients to wear during sex.

Transsexuals (HSTS) are most unlikely to date AGP men, and in most cases where this happens, they have not understood the man’s nature, (rare) or they are doing so for financial benefit (common).

Petiteness and neoteny were observed and documented as characteristics of HSTS by Blanchard amongst others. However, this is on average, and applicant within the subject’s ethnicity. Regarding Asians, yes it is true that there is an overall tendency to be smaller and less ‘masculine’ but the differences between AGP and transsexuals ar obvious. I have written several articles pointing this out.

I am not particularly interested in ‘opening dialogue’. I am interested in presenting the observed data and in countering the blatant lies of AGP activists, along with the new crop of SJW delusionists. I am also interested in speaking up for transsexuals (Blanchard HSTS) who have been discriminated against and are routienly erased by AGP ‘transgenders’ (actually transvestites), ‘accommodationist, ‘femiphobic’ gay men, and modern feminists (who are really lesbian female supremacists.)

I have nowhere suggested that all men who pursue transsexuals are AGP, only that some are. This is consistent with Hsu. I am not.

As regards men like me, non agp but gynomorphophilic, I agree that little research has been done, but I can draw on my own experience and that of others I have discussed this with. All I can say is that I am attracted to femininity and not to masculinity. I do note that re genitalia, I prefer cute pretty ones; large or coarse ones turn me off instantly. I like them ‘girly’. I think we will find that many men like me, in their pre-pubescent fantasies, imagined girls as having penises — this was the case with me and again, a perhaps surprising number of other men whom I have discussed this with. So we like thenm consistent with our idea of femininity — small, cute and neotenous. As to whether this is ‘inbred’ (I think you mean ‘innate’) I can’t say, but what I can say is that it did appear for me years before puberty.
